It’s a shiny metal cone positioned around the LED emitter, often with an orange-peel texture that evens out the spread of the beam. Generally speaking, a reflector gives you a better view of what you want to see. This component dictates the light’s beam pattern-basically, how the light looks as it projects from the flashlight-and we prefer reflectors over zoom lenses. Most flashlights have either a reflector or a zoom lens. This latest version of the TC15, the V3 model, has an improved pocket clip and replaces the original TC15 as our also-great pick. Rechargeable lights are great and offer a lot of convenience, but for the above reasons, we still prefer AA-battery-powered flashlights for our main recommendation. Also, if the battery drains during a power outage, you can’t use the light anymore unless you have an independent power source to recharge (or additional 18650 batteries). First, once the battery is drained, it takes time to fully charge again (in this case roughly three hours), so bringing a rechargeable flashlight back to life isn’t as quick as simply swapping out AA batteries. The downsides of the TC15 V3 are universal across rechargeable flashlights. The TC15 V3 typically costs between $50 and $60, at the lower end of rechargeable lights. The included USB charging cord plugs directly into the flashlight, unlike on the majority of rechargeable flashlights, where you have to remove the 18650 battery for charging. It has a one-button interface that allows for instant access to both the brightest and dimmest settings. The TC15 V3 is just barely bigger than the Archer 2A V3, but at the high setting it’s twice as bright with a similar run time. We have also looked at rechargeable flashlights, and not surprisingly, the ThruNite TC15 V3 USB rechargeable flashlight hits the same balance as the Archer 2A V3, offering high-end features at an entry-level price. Its two-AA-powered beam pattern produces such good overall visibility that, even after trying all the other lights, we reached for this flashlight first when we headed into the woods. The Archer 2A V3 also boasts a number of other features found on more-expensive lights: It doesn’t roll on a flat surface, it stands upright on its rear end, it can survive a 1-meter drop or full immersion in water-try that, smartphones-and it has a memory function as well as a momentary-on feature that turns the light on and off with a half-press of the rear button. The blinding strobe mode is useful in an emergency-but the Archer 2A V3’s design makes it easy to avoid activating the strobe during regular use, an advantage over most competitors. Like many of the best flashlights, this light has a two-button interface that lets you easily toggle through the brightness levels one-handed. The ThruNite Archer 2A V3 has the widest range of brightness settings of any AA-battery-powered light we tested, including a very dim mode that allowed us to read a map (without destroying our night vision) and a bright setting that illuminated trees 500 feet away.

Browning had previously sold the rights to his successful M1911 U.S. It was to accomplish all of this at a weight not exceeding 1 kg (2.2 lb).įN commissioned John Browning to design a new military sidearm conforming to this specification. This last criterion was seen to demand a caliber of 9 mm or larger, a bullet mass of around 8 grams (123.5 grains), and a muzzle velocity of 350 m/s (1148 ft/s). the gun be capable of killing a man at 50 metres.the gun be robust and simple to disassemble and reassemble.the gun have a magazine disconnect device, an external hammer, and a positive safety.the magazine have a capacity of at least 10 rounds. The Browning Hi-Power was designed in response to a French military requirement for a new service pistol, the Grand Rendement (French for "high yield"), or alternatively Grande Puissance (literally "high power"). Versions of the handgun continued to be made at the FN factory in Belgium under Wehrmacht control, with the designation "9mm Pistole 640(b)". Nonetheless, the term Hi Power has been the most commonly used in articles over the past decades, regardless of the year of manufacture. (Some sources indicate that the name change was not until the 1950s.) Production returned to Belgium after the war, in 1944 or 1945. Production of the weapon then moved to a John Inglis and Company plant in Canada at some date afterwards, the name was changed to "Hi Power". Several sources indicate that the official name was initially "High Power", while it was manufactured in Belgium by Fabrique Nationale prior to the German occupation in World War II. The terms P-35 and HP-35 are also used, based on the introduction of the pistol in 1935. The pistol is often referred to as an HP (for "Hi-Power" or "High-Power"), GP (for the French term, "Grande Puissance"), BAP (Browning Automatic Pistol), or BHP (Browning High-Power). The Hi Power name alludes to the 13-round magazine capacity, almost twice that of contemporary designs such as the Luger or Colt M1911. After 82 years of continuous production, the Hi-Power was discontinued in 2017 by Browning Arms, but it remained in production in some countries, under license. The Hi-Power is one of the most widely used military pistols in history, having been used by the armed forces of over 50 countries. Browning died in 1926, several years before the design was finalized. It was based on a design by American firearms inventor John Browning, and completed by Dieudonné Saive at Fabrique Nationale (FN) of Herstal, Belgium. The Browning Hi-Power is a single-action, semi-automatic handgun available in the 9mm and.
If you click on the column indicator in Google Sheets it will highlight the entire column. Paste special will paste the values and get rid of the formulas. Instead, when pasting values that were created from formulas, use Control Shift V to paste special. Copying and pasting the column onto another sheet will not produce a list of the names as intended. The problem is, that list is formulas not values. Then I fill down to make the entire list of names concatenated. I use =A1&B1 to concatenate the first and last name together. Let’s say I have first name in column A and last name in column B. Pasting special is something I use every day. How many times have you copied something and when you pasted it into the spreadsheet it is funky? Use Control Z to undo that and then use Control SHIFT V to try again. Ctrl + Shift + V: Paste specialĬontrol SHIFT V is a lifesaver for pasting. It will even overwrite things in the highlighted cells. Now use Control R to force all of the cells to the right to take on that formula or value. HIGHLIGHT to the right the cells you want to copy to. So if you want to refresh your Google Sheet you can’t use the traditional Control R. Now in every other application, Control R is refresh. It is not uncommon that I work left to right in a spreadsheet and not just top to bottom. Instead, if you highlight a vertical range of cells and use Control D it will fill in, and even overwrite, the cells that were highlighted with the value. IF the column next to it has a blank cell… say cell C17, but there is text in C18, the fill down will fill to row 17. So if you have 30 rows of data and then use Control D to fill DOWN (not up) then it will match just those 30 rows. Normally when you double click on the fill down square it matches the values to the column next to it. I mean seriously, that fill down square is SMALL! How far does the spreadsheet fill down? Now use Control D to fill down instead of trying to clumsily grab the fill down square in the bottom right corner of the cell. This way I can toggle between the two and decide which way I like it better. Ctrl + Y: Redo last actionĭid I like the change I just made? Control Z to undo what I just did and Control Y to put it back. You can also right click on a cell to choose “cell history.” Cell history won’t allow you to roll that cell backwards, but you can see what the previous value was and manually restore it if you so desire. You can however, use version history to roll the entire spreadsheet back to a previous version. If you closed the spreadsheet, you can not use Control Z to undo past mistakes. It’s just too easy to accidentally lean on the keyboard and delete entire portions of your spreadsheet.Ĭontrol Z only works if you catch the mistake while you’re still editing in the same session. Using Google Sheets, especially with a trackpad, makes Control Z a necessity. If I didn’t catch that I was making a mistake WHILE I was making the mistake, no worries. Pressing the Esc key will cancel what I am doing and put it back the way it was. Or some other thing I did not mean to do. Escape Key: Cancel what I am doingīEFORE I press enter I might realize… oops, wrong cell. I select all and then apply word wrap to the entire spreadsheet. Spreadsheet keyboard shortcuts mug from my friend Linda. When you use Control V to paste into say cell F56 then what it will add is not A1 and B1 but rather D56 + E56. This says to take the cell 2 to the left and add it to the cell one to the left. This is because it does not just copy the cell…. Ctrl + C: Copy selected cellsĬontrol C is hugely important for ANY application, but in particular it is important in Google Sheets. VirtualBox is great for simple home use or if you need to use your Mac for business occasionally. It does solve the purpose if you’re looking for simple software. VirtualBox also has many customization options but doesn’t include anything fancy. The software was later bought by Sun Microsystems, who currently own and distribute the software. Virtualbox is a software that was developed by Oracle Corporation, although its original creator was Innotek GmbH. It does have limited features when being compared to Parallels. If you’re looking for free, basic software that allows you to do this, Virtualbox may be right for you. This means that you’ll be able to run Windows on your Mac computer or laptop. Like Parallel, Virtualbox is another software that creates a virtual machine (VM), which allows the user to run a different operating system (OS). Needs better handling of USB and network loss. You’ll also get 32 vCPUs per virtual machine. The Parallels Desktop will give you higher processing power and up to 128 GB RAM. The software is particularly useful for programmers, graphic and web designers, and architects, as well as other professionals who use specialized programs. Parallels has been designed specifically for busy professionals who want to have the benefit of both Mac and Windows. They have a very user-friendly desktop, which allows you to use Windows apps and load the Windows desktop on your laptop or computer. Parallels offers Mac users the fastest and easiest way to run Windows apps. It can use either Windows or Linux as the guest operating system. Parallels works on a Mac OS X 10.4 or a later model and can run on Intel-powered Mac computers as a host operating system. You can also restart the system or copy it to a different location. This software provides the user with high portability you’ll be able to start and stop running the VM quickly. The VM will then be able to act in precisely the same way as a stand-alone device does. This software uses hypervisor technology, which allows the creation of a virtual machine (VM). Parallels, also known as Parallels Desktop for Mac, is software that was developed by Parallels Inc. We’ll also compare the two and tell you what to consider before making your choice. This article will review Virtualbox vs Parallels in terms of performance, speed, and other aspects to help you find out which software will meet your needs. There’s no reason that you can’t experience the best of both Mac and Windows on the same computer.Īs you'll get to know from this Parallels vs Virtualbox 2023 review, both these software work in similar ways however, they are also unique and have slightly different features that you’ll need to consider before making your choice. Parallels and Virtualbox are two examples of similar software that will allow you to continue using your favorite apps on your Mac. If you’ve recently found yourself in this situation, don’t panic, there’s software available that will allow you to run Windows on a Mac. That is until they realize that some of their favorite apps can only be run in Windows. Apple has a large following, and many people who have upgraded to a Mac think that they have it all. The fifth input provides the guiding geometry. Some pieces could be animated, some pieces set to deform, while others may be set to use spheres as geometry representation. Packed geometry is recognized and can be configured with the RBD Configure SOP to drive their behavior individually. The fourth input provides the collision geometry. It will be used as the simulation geometry when provided. The third input is the proxy geometry, a simplified representation of the render geometry, better suited for fast simulations. You can also use the RBD Constraint Properties SOP to set these up. They need a name point attribute connecting them to their respective pieces and a constraint_name primitive attribute matching the constraint relationship DOP’s data name, and can have primitive attributes to define their behaviorĭuring the course of the simulation. These can be created when fracturing the geometry using an RBD Material Fracture SOP or created explicitly using the RBD Constraints From Lines, RBD Constraints From Curves, or RBD Constraints From Rules among other methods. The second input is the constraint geometry, used to instantiate dynamic constraint It will be used as simulation geometry if none is provided in the third input. Like most RBD SOPs, it is based on a three input SOP, with 2 additional inputs. The RBD Bullet Solver is a wrapper around a DOP network to simplify the running ofīullet simulations. You can also navigate to choose a specific part of the Mac screen, and there are buttons to zoom to 100 percent or full screen (you can also pinch to zoom and pan, if you prefer).Ī caveat though: as much as I really like using this app, turning your iPad into a graphics tablet is not a replacement for the Wacom Cintiq, which-by nature of its technology-is designed specifically for the task, is more responsive and allows for more pinpoint accuracy when working with pixels. Once everything is in order, you’ll find a number of options to streamline your workflow, including customizable shortcuts (listed in a sidebar) to trigger commands on your Mac. I haven’t used the Astropad Mini but for the iPad version, set up is extremely fast and easy-I imagine it will be the same for those who want to install the app on the iPhones. Although being tethered to your laptop cuts back on your mobility, if your Wi-Fi signals wax and wane, it’s always good to have an alternative. Of course, Wi-Fi connections always have quirks, so you might want to try both USB and Wi-Fi to see which delivers the best and smoothest connection. Using a compatible stylus, you can retouch images in Photoshop (or use other Mac software) directly on the iPad.Ĭonnected via USB or Wi-Fi, the Astropad developers have taken steps to ensure fast performance and say that LIQUID (their name for the technology used) delivers a peak performance measurement of 12ms versus AirPlay’s 32ms. The apps work with any Mac application, including Adobe Photoshop. IOS apps, Astropad and the just-released Astropad Mini, along with free Mac software mirror your Mac screen onto your iPad or iPhone. Innovative software that quickly, easily and inexpensively transforms your iPad or iPhone into a graphics tablet. The application running on your mac works as desktop replication server (for geeks like me just imagine something like a VNC server running on your Mac). To be able to use Astropad you need to install the app on your iPad and another server app on your Mac. I am a long time Apple user and I always have my iPad with me, this software is finally bridging the gap. One of the thing that was really annoying for me in the otherwise fantastic Cintiq Companion line-up was that Wacom offers a Windows and an Android tablet but no integration whatsoever with iPads. The panel discussing the book loved it unanimously, a rare thing. Though not a fan of talk radio, I happened to listen to an episode of Pat Kenny’s Easons Book Club on his Newstalk radio show. I stumbled across the book by unusual means for me. And at the heart of the book, Addie and Louis are two lovely, flawed and recognisable people who keep you rooting for them throughout. It’s made all the more poignant knowing it was written by someone who had run out of time to enjoy those small everyday gifts. The sparseness of this deeply moving story really complements the unassuming nature of the characters. What at times is simply a listing of the mundane becomes an homage to life’s simple pleasures – a camping trip with Addie’s grandson a particular joy. This is a world where everyone has their place and you don’t dare go against the grain. Needless to say, it doesn’t remain that way, as before long they’re the talk of the town, with the scandalised townspeople – not to mention Addie’s son – shocked at the brazenness of their arrangement. Their relationship is beautifully uncomplicated, two people finding comfort in each other. When would you want to start?Īs they get to know each other, holding hands in bed in the dark and sharing their tales, we learn about their lives – with all the losses, disappointments and betrayals that make up very ordinary lives.Īddie and Louis’s arrangement may be unusual but while reading it, you think, why shouldn’t they have a little happiness together? It seems as if both have found contentment for the first times in their lives, their friendship gradually developing into something deeper. Haruf’s writing is stripped bare, the resulting book concise and profoundly truthful. The story immediately cuts to the chase – as does 70-year-old widow Addie Moore, a regular, respectable lady in small-town Holt. It’s a gorgeous book, deceptively simple in style, and the work of someone with a clear insight into what matters in life and what does not. Our Souls at Night is the final novel by American author Kent Haruf, published after his death from cancer in 2014. |
